Persuasive Essay Topics of Today and Yesterday: Southern
California Loves OIL Better than OJ
Persuasive Essay Topics of Today and Yesterday is living
proof that there really is nothing new under the sun. Let's take
a quick peek into the life and times of some early oil activists
who profanely petition shamefaced oil rig guys.
The World of the Now
One fine day, along about the month of April in 2010 an oil
rig exploded in the Gulf of Mexico. Outside the small group of
survivors, the family members of theirs, and the 11 who went
down with the rig, and a handful of folks with British
Petroleum, not many people thought much about it, including the
President of the United States of America. In the weeks since,
Obama has proven in every way that he's no hell fighter, and
John Wayne was nowhere to be found.

CITIZENS PROTEST AGAINST OIL RIGS SECOND WARD
RESIDENTS ARE AROUSED
Strongly Worded Petition Prepared by Indignant Property
Holders Will Be Presented to the Council Monday Alleging that a
number of oil rigs are running without any permit whatever, and
that some of the buildings used as oil refineries were erected
without the sanction. The building superintendent, residents and
property owners of a
portion of the Second ward will petition the council Monday to
remove these rigs from the district and revoke the licenses of
all that are operating under a permit.
The petition is couched in language that is as strong as it
could well be without shocking members of the council, and the
names that are applied to the rigs verge as closely on the
profane as could be used in a public document. But the residents
of the locality afflicted with what they term these of
offensive, inflammable, dangerous, horrible, dirty nuisances,
believe they have plenty of cause for their strong language.
The district which presents the petition is confined by
Douglas and Colton streets and Bellevue and Beaudry avenues.
Cites Two Specific Cases...
The petition states that more than seventy-five per cent of
the oil wells and oil pumping plants within this district have
been abandoned, and those that still are being worked are
profitless and cites two instances in which violations of
ordinances are alleged..."An oil heating and treating plant for
which, to the best of our knowledge and belief, no permit has
ever been granted, in it's nature offensive in odor and
inflammable, dangerous, horrible, dirty and belonging, if
anywhere within the limits of our city, only to the oil refining
district; certainly not adjoining the homes of the residents in
the district referred to." A corral for the carrying on of oil
hauling and jobbing business, which, we believe, violates every
city ordinance regulating contractors, barns, corrals, keeping
of animals, hay, manure, the running of oil refineries into
sewers, etc. "This portion of the Second ward believes that it
has a promising future as a residence district if these
annoyances can be abated.

we're mostly pleased to bring you the great news about the
wonders of of the oil business. Folks from 1905 were getting
mighty displeased about their very own neighborhood oil
disaster, and they were saying so with near foul language like
dadnabbit, and goldarnit! The question remains to be asked. If
the oil mess is in your back yard, isn't that an oil disaster or
immediate magnitude?
