From Press Reports:
The latest news from Calhoun County Alabama regarding Katrina is
that Rita petered out down south, being more of the kind of
hurricane we're used to. This only leaves Katrina to worry with,
and worry with.
The Fort McClellan barracks facilities are up and
running and able to handle upwards of 1000 evacuees. Add the Noble
training facility mentioned in earlier archived articles to the
mix and you're looking at maybe space for 1500.
Fort McClellan, in Anniston, Alabama is still awaiting
residents. A minor trickle will occur later this week when the
Talladega car race fans come to town, and the evacuees in local
hotels will have to remove to the Fort. Other than that, FEMA
continues to tell officials to expect a great number of folks from
down south as resources are shifted and distributed to relieve
overcrowding in other parts of the country. The local news media
says that upwards of 600 people are expected in most any time now.
GC has been waiting to hear a confirmation that they have arrived.
Perhaps tomorrow we'll have one. As of last night, it was still
pretty lonely out at the Fort McClellan property...

Like to learn more about Ft. McClellan? We found this nifty
site... Nobody is taking credit for the website. The contact
addressees don't know who wrote it, but it's neat...anyway.

link to learn more about it.
Regarding the daily gas history below... The low price for
gas at the Oxford I-20 exit
just before Katrina was $2.43 per gallon. Use this for a
benchmark.
