GC Katrina Coverage
From Press Reports:
Over the last couple of weeks it has become clear to the press and
folks around Calhoun County, Alabama and the nation that the
housing crisis isn't as bad as it looked...maybe. Local officials
may have anticipated an evacuee increase as overcrowded facilities
around the nation sent the surplus here, but so far it hasn't
happened. Crunch time in Calhoun County comes at the end of the
month when local hotels clear out evacuees to make room for long
rented race space for visitors to the Talladega car races. It's
unclear if evacuees will be allowed to return to area motels after
the race, since the Fort McClellan barracks and the Noble Training
rooms are expected to be fully online.
Plus...reports are that local officials are being
contacted regularly by other evacuation centers with an overflow
population. Time will tell whether or not the 1500 or so spaces
here are filled. Then, of course, there is Hurricane Rita...
Like to learn more about Ft. McClellan? We found this nifty
site... Nobody is taking credit for the website. The contact
addressees don't know who wrote it, but it's neat...anyway.
