From Press Reports:
New details about the Ft. McClellan solution have come to light
and not a few suppositions. Up to 1000 evacuees are expected to be
housed at the old Ft. McClellan army base in Anniston, Alabama
sometime around the end of September. Some will be brought in and
some are already in area motels.
The new information mainly concerns screening the folks
who will be our neighbors. It is now expected...but not
confirmed...that FEMA will conduct screenings to determine things
like special needs, medical information, and background checks.
The process is more to make sure the folks are comfortable and
perhaps to help in the future about helping them to get back into
regular society.
However, local law enforcement also indicates that they
will also want to do a criminal backgrounder. It's a common
sense precaution to protect the safety of our guests and the
community at large.
As the date of the opening of the barracks, or
starships, as some call them at Fort McClellan nears, it's
interesting to see how the local government meshes with the
federal government. So far, it appears that the local government
is determined to be ready, regardless...
Rumor has it that the Ft. McClellan facility could be
operational by the end of the week if everything falls into place.
