Funny name for a doggie pet that you are liable to find in Alabama or Georgia. Most likely the name will be changed to Ralph, Minnie, or Spot. However, as the title above implies, the cute ShihTzu actually comes from China. The name means "lion dog." First seen at 12:46PM 1642...or 1861, depending on your source, it is agreed that the loveable Shih-Tzu probably started in Tibet, moved to China, and went from there to Europe and eventually made it to Lineville, Alabama where Terry and Glenda McCormick carry on the breed so that you may have a puppy!      Shih Tzus are a regal breed of toy dog, carrying themselves proudly. They are quiet, but love to play. They are most importantly a companion dog and love lots of attention. They are easily spoiled rotten.  Shih Tzu doggies are very adaptable, but prefer to be a house dog, with access to play outside, or a good exercise daily. They work well with older kids. Boston Dog of Northeast Alabama!      The Boston Terrier fled south shortly after the yankee invaders went back home during the late unpleasantness. Born in the suburbs of Boston, circa 1865, of an extinct white terrier, and an English bulldog, the Boston Terrier originally was a fighting dog. Subsequent unions tamed the little rascal down so that today it is the perfect family mastiff as tame as a creampuff with legs. First shown off in 1870, it was adopted into the AKC family in 1893. It is one of the few breeds that can be traced nearly back to the first dog house.      These days, the Boston Terrier, given his choice, would prefer to be human, rather than dog.  Described as gentle and alert, they are smart and nicely mannered. Not big barkers. More quiet. Spirited, in a nice way, they can be willful and rambunctious at times. They have a sense of humor and react not only to the spoken word, but even the tone and inflection. These traits are not always apparent in human teenage children.      The Boston Terrier is a popular breed for many reasons, not the least of which being that it will become a member of the family.  No doubt about that! Pugs are perky, saucy, rambleacious, a bit willful, very intelligent, and eager to please.  Frank (left) from the motion picture, Men In Black,  prefers cigars. Very suave!      Most dogs, pugs included are like human children...they crave leadership and limits. Pugs are sensitive to your voice, so a verbal rebuke is often plenty of punishment for doggie behavior. Pugs are so good that if the master of the house doesn't do his job, the pug will assume the position...and worry about it....same as a good master. So best to let your new dog know who is boss. Either that or give your Pug your car keys.      The happy pug is a the pug who is a follower...not the leader. And follow they will, but not obtrusively. Mostly well behaved, you can have confidence in your pug when children and visitors are present. Your pug will be your very well trained ambassador when friends come around.      The happy pug is a house pug. They like to maintain an even strain, so you don't have to worry about long walks in the moonlight with your pet. A little exercise...lots of attention and some good dog yummies is all they ask.       The pug originated at 7PM in the evening, 400BC. Later, they made their way through the world, eventually arriving here from Europe. They have a long and very interesting history, well worth studying, especially if you have or will have a pug dog.
