Bank robber apprehended in Anniston
Georgia man who had been staying with his girlfriend in Jacksonville
was arrested today after robbing the Cheha Bank in Alexandria.
According to Calhoun County Sheriff Larry Amerson, the suspect was
arrested by Anniston police after a lookout was placed for the
vehicle. The sheriff said that investigators from Anniston and
Oxford were instrumental in gaining information leading to the
arrest of 28 year old Kortez Antjuan Allen of McDonough, Georgia.
In a joint press conference Thursday afternoon, Sheriff Amerson said
that Allen is the same suspect who robbed the Compass Bank in Oxford
and the Regions Bank in Anniston. The Sheriff said his office will
be contacting the FBI to determine in federal charges may be

Heflin agrees to buy industrial park
The Heflin City Council has agreed to buy out
the countys share in the industrial park jointly owned by the city
and county. The city council Tuesday night adopted a resolution to
purchase the park near the junction of Hwy. 46 and I-20.
The Cleburne County Commission had offered to either buy out the
city’s part in the park or sell their investment in the site to the
Heflin Mayor Anna Berry said the purchase can be made in the name
of the city industrial board and kept off the city’s books so that
it doesn’t go against the city’s debt limit.
Juror and victims sent to jail
A juror and two victims spent five days in jail
after they admitted talking by phone about a case while the jury was
deliberating.Judge Clark Hall ordered the three to spend five days
in jail on Friday after one of the victims told Assistant District
Attorney Marcus Reid about the communication.Jurors heard evidence
during Shannon Moore's trial on robbery and assault charges and were
deliberating when one of the jurors, who knew the victims,
apparently talked to the victims during the deliberation phase of
the trial. The juror did not disclose that she knew the victims, but
she was not specifically asked before the trial, Reid said. The
attorneys representing the state and Moore agreed for him to plead
guilty to two counts of third-degree assault, which is a
misdemeanor. Judge Hall ordered the three to serve time in jail for
contempt of court for not following rules, but communications like
those in the case could be considered jury tampering, which is a
