One killed and 6 injured in interstate
A noon hour four-vehicle crash near mile marker
184 on Interstate 20 Wednesday left one person dead and sent six to
the hospital. State troopers say that the driver of a Chevrolet
pickup, whose name was unknown, died after being airlifted to
University Hospital in Birmingham. Six passengers in a Ford
Excursion all from Trussville were transported to Regional Medical
Center. All eastbound lanes of I-20 were closed for some two hours
as rescue crews cleared the scene.. Officials said that a Honda
car, a Chevrolet pickup, a Ford SUV and a tractor trailer all were
involved in the accident. State troopers say the cause of the
accident remains under investigation.
Birmingham graffiti attack linked to
The FBI Gang Task Force says the suspect in a
weekend graffiti attack in Birmingham, has a history in Anniston and
Oxford. Monday, Birmingham public works joined citizens cleaning up
graffiti sprayed in the Druid Hils section of the city. Law
enforcement sources say the southern California gang Sur 13 was
behind the vandalism. At Tuesday morning's Birmingham city council
meeting, the FBI Gang Task Force reported it had identified a
suspect in the weekend incident. It says identical "tagging" has
been spotted in Anniston and Gadsden. Investigators believe the
suspect was at a party in Druid Hills when the vandalism took

for new racetrack
Heflins loss may be Lincolns gain. George
Howard Racing proposed in mid-January building a 15,000-seat race
track in an industrial park in Cleburne County, but withdrew the
proposal in part because of the lack of community support for the
project. Representatives for George Howard Racing now say that two
sites in Lincoln head a short list of locations the company is
considering. She Officials from Lincoln approached the company
during the discussions with Heflin. GHR is still developing a formal
proposal but a spokesperson said the racing complex would likely
include a 15,000-seat dragstrip, a "motorsports megamall" and a RV
