One killed and 6 injured in interstate accident

A noon hour four-vehicle crash near mile marker 184 on Interstate 20 Wednesday left one person dead and sent six to the hospital. State troopers say that the driver of a Chevrolet pickup, whose name was unknown, died after being airlifted to University Hospital in Birmingham. Six passengers in a Ford Excursion all from Trussville were transported to Regional Medical Center. All eastbound lanes of I-20 were closed for some two hours as rescue crews cleared the scene..   Officials said that  a Honda car, a Chevrolet pickup, a Ford SUV and a tractor trailer all were involved in the accident.   State troopers say the cause of the accident remains under investigation.

Birmingham graffiti attack linked to Anniston

The FBI  Gang Task Force says the suspect in a weekend graffiti attack in Birmingham, has a history in Anniston and Oxford.  Monday, Birmingham public works joined citizens cleaning up graffiti sprayed in the Druid Hils section of the city.  Law enforcement sources say the southern California gang Sur 13 was behind the vandalism.  At Tuesday morning's Birmingham city council meeting, the FBI Gang Task Force reported it had identified a suspect in the weekend incident.   It says identical "tagging" has been spotted in Anniston and Gadsden. Investigators believe the suspect was at a party in Druid Hills when the vandalism took place.

Lincoln being considered as possible site for new racetrack

Heflins loss may be Lincolns gain.  George Howard Racing proposed in mid-January building a 15,000-seat race track in an industrial park in Cleburne County, but withdrew the proposal in part because of the lack of community support for the project. Representatives for George Howard Racing now say that two sites in Lincoln head a short list of locations the company is considering. She Officials from Lincoln approached the company during the discussions with Heflin. GHR is still developing a formal proposal but a spokesperson said the racing complex would likely include a 15,000-seat dragstrip, a "motorsports megamall" and a RV park.
