Teen arrested in abduction and robberies                   

A 16-year-old teen has been charged by Anniston police in connection with two weekend robberies and a kidnapping. The 16 year old, whose name has not been released, is accused of approaching a 23-year-old Anniston woman and her 1-year-old child Friday evening as she was getting into her silver 2002 Ford Explorer in the parking lot of Top O' the River on McClellan Boulevard. Investigators said the youth, described as 6 feet tall and 160 pounds, pointed a handgun at the woman and forced her into the vehicle. According to the police report, the woman and child were taken to the intersection of 23rd Street and McKleroy Avenue, where the youth told her to take her child and get out, then drove off in the Explorer. Police then said that an Explorer matching the description of the woman's car was used in a robbery at JJ's Foodmart on the 3400 block of Alexandria Road sunday. Around 2:15 p.m., according to police reports, two men – one of them matching the description of the youth – approached the counter of the store with a handgun and took money from the 60-year-old clerk and from the cash register. Officers spotted the Explorer later sunday evening and pursued it, When the vehicle was stopped, two men jumped out and fled, Police arrested the 16-year-old but the other suspect has not been apprehended. Police say that It is likely the teen will be charged as an adult.  

 

 

Honda announces expansion 

Governor Bob Riley joined Honda manufacturing of Alabama officials Monday in announcing that they will be adding the Honda Ridgeline Truck to their production line. The production of the Ridgeline in Lincoln represents a 22 million dollar economic investment. Ridgeline production is expected to begin in early 2009. Honda Manufacturing of Alabama already produces the Honda Odyssey and the Honda Pilot.

 

Gas prices 

A new Lundberg Survey says average gasoline prices are up 64 cents over where they were a year ago. On Friday, the average price of self-serve regular was $3.19 a gallon. That's a jump of 9 cents in two weeks. In Alabama, the Triple-A auto club reports the average statewide price for regular unleaded is $3.15 a gallon today. Midgrade fuel is $3.37 and premium costs $3.47 a gallon. Among the state's metro areas -- Montgomery recorded the cheapest price for regular at $3.13 a gallon. Mobile had the highest price at $3.17.
