Warning on McClellan trespassing
Officials at the former fort McClellan issued a
warning this week to curiosity seekers who enter restricted areas of
the former military base. Anniston Mayor Chip Howell , Vice
Chairman of the JPA, said this week that concerns were raised after
a couple was recently caught on restricted property. He says the
uninvited guests likely came up the Eastern Parkway from Golden
Springs to explore, but once they climbed a safety fence, they were
in a dangerous area. The JPA is continuing working to remove
unexploded ordnance, chemical runoff and other dangerous materials
from about eleven-thousand acres. Officials say that anyone who is
caught climbing fences on McClellan property could face severe
penalties.
