Warrant issued in Bank Robbery                       

The FBI has issued a warrant for the arrest of 20-year-old Gabriel Dewayne Rice of the Gadsden area for his role in the Wednesday morning bank robbery at Wachovia Bank in Lenlock.  Rice is described as black, 6 feet 2 inches tall, and weighing 165 pounds.  Wachovia Bank also has issued a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the robbery.  Two armed men entered the bank between 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning and at least one of them held a gun to an employee, forcing her to open a safe.  The men apparently saw witnesses following them and abandoned their getaway vehicle. Then abducted two women and their  silver Nissan Altima where they forced them at gunpoint to drive them to Gadsden where the men abandoned the women and the vehicle  At Crestwood Cemetery in East Gadsden. An FBI spokesman said Rice was identified and a warrant was obtained for him Thursday afternoon.  The other man is described as black, in his early 20s.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the FBI at 205-326-6166.  

 

Drug Busts 

In their ongoing effort to combat meth production in the Calhoun Cleburne county area, The Calhoun County Drug Task Force announced Thursday the busting up six meth labs, arresting 13 people, over the past two weeks. According to a press release from the task force, agents discovered two labs in a motel on Quintard Avenue in Anniston, one on Post Oak Road in Alexandria, two on Coldwater Road and one on S. Hollingsworth Road in Wellborn. In two of the busts, agents found small children who were taken into custody by the Department of Human Resources. Agents said the investigations and subsequent seizures came from tips from the community. Those arrested were identified as, 41 year old Connie Logan, charged with first-degree unlawful manufacture of a controlled substance and trafficking in methamphetamine. 35 year old Mark Harrison,  of Anniston charged with first-degree unlawful manufacture of a controlled substance and trafficking in methamphetamine. 30 year old Foncell Wright, of Anniston charged with first-degree unlawful manufacture of a controlled substance and trafficking in methamphetamine. 46 year old Roy Waddell, charged with first-degree unlawful manufacture of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.  64 year old James Miller,  of Anniston charged with first-degree unlawful manufacture of a controlled substance and trafficking in methamphetamine.  39 year old Troy White,  of Anniston charged with first-degree unlawful manufacture of a controlled substance, trafficking in methamphetamine. 45 year old Mark Jody Williams,  of Anniston charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. 31 year old Misty Hickman,  of Anniston charged with first-degree unlawful manufacture of a controlled substance, trafficking in methamphetamine. 47 year old Winfred Lee Shiflett,  of Anniston charged with first-degree unlawful manufacture of a controlled substance. 19 year old Benjamin Howell,  of Alexandria charged with first-degree unlawful manufacture of a controlled substance. 34 year old Landy Isaac,  of Alexandria charged with first-degree unlawful manufacture of a controlled substance. 26 year old  Clay Coggins,  of Anniston charged with first-degree unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a controlled substance. 34 year old Jerilee Knight, of Anniston charged with  first-degree unlawful manufacture of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a controlled substance. 

 

PCB at Anniston schools 

Anniston School officials say that PCB contaminated soil on two school properties in the city have been identified and will be removed by Solutia. The Foothills Community Partnership discovered the PCBs during soil sampling at Constantine Elementary and Anniston High School schools.  Anniston School Superintendent Joan Frazier said the contaminated sites are on the north side of each campus which together encompass less than an acre.
