BREAKING NEWS: Pentagon proposal would ship more chemical weapons to Anniston

The latest semi-annual report on weapons destruction the Pentagon is required to send to lawmakers is suggesting options to speed the destruction of chemical weapons to meet the requirements of an international treaty signed in 1997. The report suggests, as one option, moving chemical stockpiles in Colorado and Kentucky to sites in Utah, Oregon, Arkansas and Alabama. According to the proposal, weapons stored at Bluegrass Army Depot near Richmond, Ky., could be shipped to Anniston and to Pine Bluff, Ark.  The option has shocked many community leaders who were told when the incinerator was built that such a case would not happen.  For such a plan be carried out, there would have to be congressional action to allow any new chemical weapons to be brought to Anniston.  Mike Abrams, a spokesman for the Anniston Chemical Agent Disposal Facility says it is too early to speculate.  The report said while destruction of these weapons by 2017 is possible using this method, “confidence is low” because it would require changing federal law to allow transportation of these weapons across state borders. A spokesperson for Congressman Mike Rogers said “the congressman will not stand for additional chemical weapons to be transported into the community.  Back in 2005, he said it would happen only over his cold, dead body, and to this day he remains adamantly opposed to this absurd, unrealistic idea”.

Body of missing teen found

Authorities in Etowah county believe then have found the remains of missing 15-year-old Jeffrey Blake Stone in a freezer at a neighbor’s house.  Etowah county sheriff Todd Entrekin said the discovery was made Tuesday after a tipThe sheriff said that two neighbors are being held and  are expected to be charged with murder today.  Authorities say they belive that the boy was killed and initially buried at the area on Rocky Hollow Road.  The body was apparently moved within the last week and placed in a chest-type freezer at a neighbor’s house. The body apparently was wrapped in a tarpaulin.  District attorney Jimmy Harp said he expects charges will come quickly.  The body was found about 10 miles from Stone’s home on Littleton Cutoff Road, where Stone was last seen.  The 15-year-old, who was a student at Sardis School, was reported missing after he was last seen on March 24.

Lincoln Hit and Run

Authorities report that a 21 year old Lincoln man was killed late Monday after he was struck by a car was steered toward a group of people.   Authorities identified the victim as Tonquerrius Leron Miller,. Officers arrived at the scene on second avenue where they found a 1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo that apparently struck and killed Miller. Officers said they  believe the incident was a continuation of an earlier altercation that escalated but do not believe miller was involved in the altercation.  Investigators said they believe the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway and sped toward the crowd gathered on an empty wooded lot, where Miller was struck. Investigators said the incident occurred on Second Avenue, between Fomby and Foundry streets.  No charges have been filed at this time and the investigation is ongoing. Investigators have identified and are in the process of interviewing possible suspects and witnesses.
