Rep. Fites’ son arrested

The son of Alabama State Representative Lea Fite has been arrested on arson and attempted burglary charges. Jerrod Fite and Justin Blanton are accused in a string of arsons in Cullman County where Jerrod Fite lives with his mother. Investigators believe they targeted abandoned homes. Authorities say they have not determined a motive yet and are trying to figure out if the pair is connected to other arsons. Lea Fite represents Alabama’s 40th District in Calhoun County. 



Anniston council hears from auditors 

The Anniston City Council received answers Tuesday night from the cities auditing firm regard allegations by Councilman Ben Little that City Manager George Monk has misspent city funds.  Mayor Chip Howell said the report found no impropriaties… Little said Tuesday night that he wanted time to review the report and would have further questions regarding cost overruns on the 2006 projects at the cities recreation complex at McClellan. 


Crime in Anniston declines in ‘07 

The number of reported crimes in the City of Anniston was up slightly in 2007, that according to statistics released by Anniston police.  The total number of reported crimes increased by only 23 during the year. The statistics show, however that violent crimes in the city showed a decrease while property crimes increased.  The cities murder rate dropped from 14 in 2006 to 9 in 2007.  The city also recorded a decrease in Sexual assaults, assaults, burglary and thefts.  Meanwhile, robberys showed one of the largest increases along with motor vehicle thefts which showed the largest increase in 2007.


Missing Anniston man found

A 22 year old Anniston man, missing since Christmas day was Tuesday morning at a Gadsden motel.  22-year-old Louis Fenton Brown III was taken into custody on outstanding warrants. Brown's family told Anniston police he was last seen Christmas Day in Anniston after he and his wife got into a minor argument. Initially, police had no leads but acting on information they received late last week, they located Brown.
