Crime and Education highlight political forum in Anniston

Education and crime topped the issues addressed to candidates for city offices in Anniston Monday night.  During a political forum sponsored by the Anniston star,  Candidates were questioned on issues raised by both the public and the press.  The issues ranged from Candidates calling for higher pay for Anniston police and firefighters, more unity on the city council and the pro’s and con’s of creating a black chamber of commerce using city funds.  While the city council has little if any control over the operation of the cities schools, some suggested more funding for the schools while others called on more enforcement to keep the kids off the streets and in the classroom.  The candidates for Mayor laid out their plans for the cities future development.  Challenger (Link added by GC ) Gene Robinson said he would create a business council to work aggressively to revitalize the city by luring new business.  Mayor Chip Howell said that the city has a good business climate and is moving in the right direction.  Both candidates were pleased with the questions Monday night.  There will be another candidate forum Thursday evening at the Quintard Mall involving elected offices in the city of oxford. Picture on right...
