Trooper injured at license check
A state trooper from the Jacksonville Trooper
post is recovering at home today after being released Monday from
UAB hospital after being struck by a drunk driver Saturday night.
Officials say that Corporal Brian Merrill was working a license road
check in the Websters Chapel community at the intersection of
Webster Chapel and A.P. Hollingsworth road near 9 Saturday night
when he was struck by a car at the road check. Officials said that
Corporal Merrill suffered facial injuries and was taken to an area
hospital and transferred to UAB. The driver of the car, 36 year old
Chris Lipscom of Rainbow City was charged with driving under the
influence and first degree assault. Libscom was released on bond
Monday from the Calhoun county jail.
Weaver man charged in multiple murders
The owner of an Anniston business is held today
in the Calhoun County Jail without bond charged with the double
murder of two Anniston residents found in a burning house on
Bancroft avenue in Anniston. 49 year old Robert Clarence Ervin of
Weaver is charged with capital murder in the shooting deaths of 26
year old William Junior Nunn, and 47 year old Annette Spinks. The
bodies inks were found March 8 in a burned-out back room of the
Bancroft Avenue house. Autopsies showed the two died of multiple
gunshot wounds before they were burned beyond recognition. Ervin,
owner of Total Quality Auto Paint & Body Shop on Noble Street is
being held without bond awaiting a May 15 court date.
Anniston police search for bank robber
Police are continuing their search for the man who robbed the
Regions Bank branch in Golden Springs Monday morning. Police say
the man entered the Golden Springs branch around 9:25 Monday morning
and passed the teller a note demanding money. The man, who never
showed a weapon, fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Witnesses at the bank could only provide police with a vague
description of the suspect.
