Police seeking weekend murder suspect

Anniston police are investigating two weekend shootings on 18th street one resulting in a murder.  Police say the first incident involved a man who was shot while he walked along 18th street.  He was transported to Stringfellow hospital where he was treated and released.  About an hour later another man was shot while he was in his vehicle also on 18th street,  he was taken to the hospital where he later died of his injuries.  The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.  Anniston police say they are searching for suspects.

Etowah County sheriff list growing

The number of people who want to fill the position of Etowah County Sheriff continues to grow.  The person selected by governor Bob Riley will fill the unexpired term of Sheriff James Hayes, who died Oct. 19.  The Etowah County Republican Executive Committee will meet Tomorrow to interview the candidates and submit the top three recommendations to the Governor, who is expected to make the appointment later this week.  Todd Entrekin, who worked as chief deputy under Hayes, has applied, along with Joe Nabors, an attorney and former captain with the Alabama Bureau of Investigation; and Richard Kitchens, who has run for sheriff on the Republican ticket against Hayes in several elections. Gadsden businessman Craig Inzer is seeking the position, along with former Etowah County Commissioner Bryan Bishop; Matt Sims, the assistant to the county administrator in Cherokee County and former computer information services director for Etowah County; state probation officer Mitchell Chastain; Boaz Police Chief Terry Davis; Southside police officer Wayne Garmon and Gadsden police Capt. Roy Harbin.
Several others have submitted and then withdrawn their name.
