Holiday Travel

Today marks the busiest travel day of the year as more than 39 million people hit the roadways to travel to their family and friends over the thanksgiving holidays. Almost five million are also expected to fly through the nation's airports. Forecasters believe a mix of storms and some snow in parts of the Midwest and east could cause delays in some of the country's biggest airports. The Birmingham International Airport expects some 70,000 passengers to come through the airport this week. As far as Alabama highways go, you can expect congestion. Clay Ingram with AAA says close to 39 million people will be traveling 50 miles or more to their holiday destinations.

Etowah Drug Bust

Members of the Etowah County Drug Task Force have busted a large scale methamphetamine distribution ring.  18-year-old Geraldo Perez Ochoa is charged with four counts of trafficking methamphetamine, as well as illegal entry, and is being held on four-hundred thousand dollars bond. 19-year-old Jose Guzman Reyes is charged with three counts of trafficking methamphetamine and illegal entry. He is being held on three-hundred thousand dollars bond. 19-year-old Roberto Tiburico Hernandez is charged with one count of trafficking methamphetamine and is being held on one million dollars bond. The three were arrested as part of a month-long undercover investigation in cooperation with the FBI and authorities in Marshall County. Agents say they bought drugs from the men at various locations in Etowah County. Authorities say they simultaneously served three warrants in Marshall County late Monday and took the men into custody. Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entgrekin said this is the perfect example of how working together can make a difference in the community.) Agents seized a stash of imported Mexican Meth, also known as ICE, with a street value of seventy thousand dollars. They also seized four firearms and two vehicles during this raid.

Bank Scam

Bank customers in Alabama, Tennessee, Florida and Mississippi were the victims of a telephone scam. They were called on the phone and told to visit a fraudulent Web site to verify their existing on-line credentials, specifically requesting their username and passwords.   Regions Bank is the target of this online scam. The bank has
said they will never ask customers for online information via the internet or telephone.   Regions has asked any customers who have responded to this solicitation to please contact Regions at 1-800-REGIONS (734-4667). The FBI cyber crime squad said this is a new twist on an ongoing scam since the requests are coming by a computer generated phone call.

Pie Crust Recall

With Thanksgiving just a day away there is another food recall.  Blue Planet Foods is recalling 3,898 units of Heartland-brand Graham Pie Crusts because they contain ingredients not stated on the label.  People who have an allergy to almonds, milk or coconut run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they eat pies made with the crusts.  Blue Planet is based in Collegedale, Tennessee.  The pie crusts were distributed to stores nationwide.  They bear the following codes: "Best By 10 27 08 1" or "Best By 10 27 08 3."  Consumers needing more information can call Blue Planet at 1-877-885-6650.
