Whitehead of Altoona was killed in the accident on Still Station
Lake Road some 2.5 miles north of Highway 179 in Etowah County as he
was driving a Chevy Camaro. A passenger in the vehicle, 20 year old

Shoppers at the Jacksonville Wal-Mart as well
as customers of a local fast food restaurant were forced to evacuate
the buildings Sunday evening after a suspicious odor brought fears
of a possible natural gas leak. Fire officials were notified of the
suspicious smell near the store’s pharmacy about 4:40 p.m. and
ordered the store evacuated. Shoppers abandoned their merchandise
and calmly exited the building. After about two hours, workers
determined the odor was not from a natural gas leak but was believed
to coming from the underground sewer system. An estimated 150 people
evacuated Wal-Mart while three customers evacuated the nearby Taco
Bell. Both stores re-opened about 6:30 Sunday evening.
