Episcopal Diocese files suit against Historic
The Episcopal Diocese of Alabama has filed suit
against the owner of a church at the former fort McClellan. Diocese
attorney Charles Turner said they have filed the suit against Historic
Buckner. Turner said he believes that Historic Buckner is attempting
to avoid service. According to the Alabama Secretary of States
Website, Anniston businessman and developer Julian Jenkins is the
registered agent for Historic Buckner which according to Calhoun
County Tax Records, owns a number of prime properties at McClellan
that according to tax records were purchased shortly after the former
fort closed, most of the property is in the Buckner circle area near
the JPA headquarters. Attorneys for both sides met Thursday to
discuss the issues. Former Calhoun county judge Sam Monk is
representing Historic Buckner . The Diocese entered into a five year
lease on the church on Buckner Circle with an option to purchase the
church at the end of the lease for one dollar. Charles Turner says
the Diosese is attempting to seek conveyance of the property.
According to tax records, historic Buckner is one of the major owners
of property in the developed area of McClellan, with records
indicating that the purchases occurred near or shortly after the
closing of the fort.
Jacksonville woman dies from wreck injuries
Authorities say that a Jacksonville woman,
involved in a Wednesday wreck in Cherokee County died Thursday
afternoon. 29 year old Allison Brown, of Jacksonville, the daughter
of Jacksonville funeral home owner Koven Brown, died at Erlanger
Medical Center in Chattanooga. Alabama State Troopers said Brown was
the driver of one of the cars involved in a two-car accident on
Alabama Highway 9 Between Centre and Cedar Bluff Wednesday afternoon.
The 1997 Toyota driven by Brown, and a 1999 Ford truck occupied by
Jack and Katherine Byrd of Centre collided. State Troopers reported
that The Centre couple were in critical condition Thursday at
University Hospitals in Birmingham.
Bank Robber nabbed in Gadsden
Thanks to quick thinking employees at a Gadsden Bank resulted in the
arrest of An unarmed man attempting to rob the bank. The 51-year-old
man wearing a brunette wig and a black hat with attempted to rob
Exchange Bank on Third Street about 4 Thursday afternoon. Police
would not identify the man because the investigation is ongoing.
Police said the man entered the bank and presented a a note asking
for $10,000. Bank employees triggered the bank's silent alarm and
employees told him they didn't have that kind of cash and stalled him
until police arrived. The man ran for the side door into the parking
lot, where he was apprehended by waiting officers.
