Bomb squad recovers explosive device

The Gadsden bomb squad recovered the components of a powerful explosive after Agents with the Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit went Friday to a house on U.S. Highway 11 in Reece City.  The bomb squads discovery led to more arrests, and the investigation is continuing.  Officials say that The bomb's main charge was intact and preserved for evidence. The bomb blew apart without the main charge going off and the bomb squad was able to hold the main charge for evidence.  The state fire marshal's office is leading the investigation of the bomb, which led to the search Saturday of a home in DeKalb County.  Agents with Etowah County's drug unit began an investigation several weeks ago, which led to the arrest about noon Friday of  30 year old William Bryant "Red" Watson of Collinsville.
Watson was arrested on an existing warrant for distribution of a controlled substance and was charged Friday with two counts of possession of methamphetamine.  As agents continued the investigation, it was discovered that Watson allegedly had a bomb or had access to explosives.  The investigation led to the house in Reece City. Drug agents, along with the bomb squad, went to the house late Friday afternoon.  Members of the bomb squad found the explosives in a bag inside the house where the device was being stored.
