Battle continues to “save the trees” in Jacksonville

Attalla records first homicide in four years 

Attalla police are searching today for suspects in a weekend home invasion and the cities first homicide in four years.  Police report today that a 40-year-old man was shot several times and later died in the hospital after a home invasion and robbery Saturday night.  Officials said two to three armed men entered a residence on Lester Street and, during an ensuing struggle, Bobby D. Kimbril, who owned the house, was shot several times.  According to Police Chief Joe Hereford Kimbril was home with his girlfriend when the invasion happened about 8 p.m. Saturday evening.  He said the men, who demanded money, struggled with Kimbril and then shot him.  The men also assaulted Kimbril's girlfriend, who was treated at an area hospital.  Kimbril was transported to Riverview Regional Medical Center where he died in surgery.Police are asking that anyone with information about the crime to contact the Attalla Police Department at 538-7837 

 

 

Anniston woman charged in stabbing and arson 

A 34 year old Anniston woman was arrested Sunday after apparently stabbed a male friend and set her apartment in Anniston on fire Sunday morning. Police responded to a call about a structure fire on Moore avenue at about 9 a.m. Sunday  and found that Felicia Russell had allegedly stabbed a 45-year-old male in the head with a knife and then set her residence on fire.  Russell, was arrested at the scene on domestic violence in the third degree and first degree arson charges. All four apartments in the building  received smoke damage.  

 

Randolph  County hoping to resolve water issue 

The Randolph County Water, Sewer and Fire Protection Authority kicked around several options Friday on how to ensure its customers have water.  Among the suggestions, trucking in water; leasing or buying equipment to set up temporary water plants; as well as other options.   Since Friday the authority has moved ahead with plans to hook into the Cleburne County water system that will channel water from Anniston's Coldwater Spring.  The authority officially declared the situation an emergency, and the authority board will meet Thursday at to review emergency bids. Chairman Frank Phillips has already obtained emergency interim financing to complete the emergency tie in.
