The Mazda pickup apparently rolled backward down
the slope toward Hamby and as she tried to stop it she fell underneath
the vehicle. The truck was in neutral when authorities arrived, Brown
said. Brown speculated that Hamby probably thought she had shifted the
car into park when she got out to shut the gate.

soldier was killed over the weekend in Iraq. The Defense Department

Saks High School graduate, died from gunshot wounds Saturday in

Man charged with murder of 5 year old in court
on other charges
Kevin Andre Towles, who faces capital murder charges in the beating
death of 5-year-old Geontae Glass, was in court Monday. Geontae, a
kindergartner at John Jones Elementary, became the focus of a search
across much of the state in December after his mother, Shalinda Glass,
reported her car was stolen when she and her 7-year-old daughter went
inside an Albertville convenience store, leaving the boy asleep in the
backseat. Investigators discovered the report was allegedly staged as
part of a plan to cover up Geontae's death. The boy's body was later
found in the trunk of the car hidden in a garage at Towles' Shady
Grove Road home.
On Monday, Towles took the stand on drug and weapons charges he was
already facing prior to Geontae's death. Etowah County District
Attorney Jimmie Harp Jr. said Towles had charges for possession of a
controlled substance - marijuana - and for being a felon in possession
of a firearm, stemming from an arrest early last year. He said Circuit
Court Judge David Kimberley denied a motion to suppress and Towles
would be set to go to trial this afternoon. Towles and Shalinda Glass
both face capital murder charges for the death of Geontae. A
preliminary hearing date has not been set.
