Skaters participate in park meeting

A 45 year old Jacksonville man is charged today with murder following the shooting death of his roommate.

Jacksonville Robbery

Jacksonville police are searching for suspects in a Tuesday night robbery.  According to police, two masked men, one of the armed with a handgun, entered the video warehouse on Pelham road in Jacksonville during the 9 oclock hour Tuesday night.  Police said the two men fled with an undetermined amount of cash.  No one was injured in the holdup.

Piedmont police chief resigns

Piedmont Police Chief David Paslay will step down as police chief on December 21st.   Paslay, who has been chief since 2001,  notified the city of his decision last month. City Clerk Bill Fann say the job has been posted internally.  In the event Paslay leaves and no decision has been made on a replacement, Fann said that Police Captain Steven Tidwell will serve as interim chief. Paslay will leave the department to pursue the ministry.

Injunction issued in annexation case

An Etowah County has granted an injunction that will temporarily prevent Boaz’s annexation of Mountainboro.  Circuit Judge David Kimberley granted the injunction  during a pre-trial conference Tuesday. The suit challenges the results of the Oct. 30 election in which Mountainboro voters voted 82-81 to be annexed into Boaz. Both the city of Mountainboro and the city of Boaz are listed as defendants. Attorney Jack Floyd filed the suit on behalf of Mountainboro residents Treva and Benny E. Griffin.
The suit, claims that at least two illegal votes were cast in the election by people who did not live in Mountainboro.  Tuesday’s pre-trial conference was scheduled to establish procedures for any requested discovery and to set a final hearing date.
In the suit, the Griffins said illegal ballots were cast by Thomas Baugh and Dorothy Baugh. The suit said Dorothy Baugh voted absentee.  James Anderson, a Montgomery attorney representing Mountainboro, said his understanding is that Dorothy Baugh did not vote in the election and that Mountainboro might challenge some votes cast against annexation as being illegal.  Judge Kimberley agreed a consent injunction was necessary to prevent the annexation of Mountainboro until legalities are resolved.   He set a final hearing date for 10 a.m. Dec. 28.
