Gadsden bank robbery
A Gadsden bank was targeted for a robbery this
morning. According to Gadsden Police Captain Jeff Wright, Two black
males entered the Community Credit Union on Albert Rains Blvd near
9:30 Monday morning. The suspects abandoned their vehicle near the
Meighan Blvd. Bridge across the Coosa River and fled on foot.
Officers pursed the suspects, capturing one near the edge of the
water and the other inside a drainage pipe. Both suspects are now
being held on robbery charges. Wight said that no one was injured
inside the bank.
Cain will not return as director of CDP
Marion Cain will not be returning as the
director of the Center for Domestic Preparedness at McClellan. CDP
Spokeswoman Kathy Wood said Friday that the former director of the
Center has been permanently reassigned. Officials have refused to
discuss why Marion Cain was reassigned, citing Federal Emergency
Management Agency policy. Current CDP director Cortez Lawrence was
appointed to the position temporarily when Cain left the center in
July for what officials at the time said was to work on a national
training program. Cain had been temporarily placed on administrative
leave in 2005 during an investigation by the Homeland Security
inspector general's office. FEMA and Homeland Security officials and
CDP officials have refused to disclose details about that
Ragland man indicted for murder
A St. Clair County grand jury has indicted a
Ragland man accused of robbing and murdering a Talladega resident.
20 year old Anthony James Crowe, of Ragland was indicted for the
capital murder of 30 year old Wendell DeWayne “Devok” Wheeles.
Authorities said Crowe gave a written confession of the murder only
a few days after the April 30 killing. Authorities said Crowe is
charged with capital murder because the murder of Wheeles took place
during the commission of another felony. Crowe allegedly stole
Wheeles’ billfold, cell phone and vehicle after the murder. The
grand jury, which convened last week, also indicted the Ragland man
Talladega man guilty of murder
A Talladega County jury of eight women and four
men deliberated for just over 2 hours Friday afternoon before
finding Ricky Charles Goodwin guilty of the April 2002 capital
murders of his stepfather, brother and mother following a five day
trial. Although Circuit Judge Julian King did not set a formal
sentencing hearing Friday after the verdict, Goodwin faces a
mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of
