 Gadsden bank robbery

A Gadsden bank was targeted for a robbery this morning. According to Gadsden Police Captain Jeff Wright, Two black males entered the Community Credit Union on Albert Rains Blvd near 9:30 Monday morning.  The suspects abandoned their vehicle near the Meighan Blvd. Bridge across the Coosa River and fled on foot.  Officers pursed the suspects, capturing one near the edge of the water and the other inside a drainage pipe.  Both suspects are now being held on robbery charges. Wight said that no one was injured inside the bank.

Cain will not return as director of CDP

Marion Cain will not be returning as the director of the Center for Domestic Preparedness at McClellan.  CDP Spokeswoman Kathy Wood said Friday that the former director of the Center has been permanently reassigned. Officials have refused to discuss why Marion Cain was reassigned, citing Federal Emergency Management Agency policy.  Current CDP director Cortez Lawrence was appointed to the position temporarily when Cain left the center in July for what officials at the time said was to work on a national training program. Cain had been temporarily placed on administrative leave in 2005 during an investigation by the Homeland Security inspector general's office. FEMA and Homeland Security officials and CDP officials have refused to disclose details about that investigation.

Ragland man indicted for murder

A St. Clair County grand jury has indicted a Ragland man accused of robbing and murdering a Talladega resident. 20 year old Anthony James Crowe, of Ragland was indicted for the capital murder of 30 year old Wendell DeWayne “Devok” Wheeles. Authorities said Crowe gave a written confession of the murder only a few days after the April 30 killing. Authorities said Crowe is charged with capital murder because the murder of Wheeles took place during the commission of another felony. Crowe allegedly stole Wheeles’ billfold, cell phone and vehicle after the murder. The grand jury, which convened last week, also indicted the Ragland man for robbery.

Talladega man guilty of murder

A Talladega County jury of eight women and four men deliberated for just over 2 hours Friday afternoon before finding Ricky Charles Goodwin guilty of the April 2002 capital murders of his stepfather, brother and mother following a five day trial. Although Circuit Judge Julian King did not set a formal sentencing hearing Friday after the verdict, Goodwin faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
