Gadsden man charged with vehicular homicide 

A 26 year old Gadsden man has been charged with vehicular homicide in connection with a March 7th accident in accident which killed a 58 year old Anniston woman.  Police have charged Robert Grimes in connection with the death of Jewell Glover. Police said that Glover was crossing Quintard, westbound on 15th Street, when her 2005 Pontiac G6 collided with a 1996 Mercury Villager driven by Grimes. Grimes sustained minor injuries in the accident.


Man arrested on arson charge against local judge 

An Anniston man has been charged with criminal solicitation to commit arson against a local judge. Calhoun County Sheriff Larry Amerson said 19 year old Jonathan Robert Hayward, is being held on a $960,000 bond. Investigators say they believe Hayward had tried to get other people to help him set fire to a house in Saks to cover up a burglary. Hayward also faces one count of theft of property, five counts of breaking and entering a vehicle and two counts of burglary. Officials said he is a suspect in the burglary connected with the alleged arson, but had not been charged with that burglary as of Wednesday. The sheriff would not identify which judge was the victim in the case. However, Police reports indicate that Circuit Judge Malcolm Street’s home was burglarized in December.



Woman shot in Cherokee County 

Cherokee County authorities are investigating the shooting of a Slackland woman early Tuesday evening. Authorities say that the woman was apparently riding a motorcycle on U.S. Highway 411 south of Leesburg when she was shot approximately four times between 6:30 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. The victim, Loretta Gilbert., was airlifted from the scene to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga. Authorities placed a lookout for a blue or black GMC with a 31 county tag with an older, white male driver. Investigators are also asking for assistance from anyone who happened to be traveling 411 south around the time of the incident who may have seen anything out of the ordinary. The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department and Leesburg Police Department continue the investigation.


TB detected in foundry workers 

The Alabama Department of Public Health said Wednesday that 15 Union Foundry Co. workers in Anniston showed positive skin tests for tuberculosis. Health Department officials said that Early findings indicate the cases are inactive and not contagious. The 15 workers have received chest X-rays this week to see if they have active cases. A final statement on the workers’ conditions may be available by the end of this week or early next week. The workers tested positive during routine testing and will be considered for “preventative therapy” to keep them from developing active cases of TB. Union Foundry employs 315 people and manufactures pipe fittings for use in water and sewer lines.
