Too much fluoride leaves bitter taste in
The city of Jacksonville utility department is
recommending that customers on the cities water system refrain from
drinking or cooking with the water until later today when a flushing
of the system is complete. Officials say that an equipment
malfunction resulted in an abnormal amount of fluoride to be injected
into the cities water system during the night. The above normal
amount of fluoride is not considered to be dangerous, however its
presence has resulted in a discoloration and unpleasant odor and taste
to the water supply. Several people have reported upset stomachs
after drinking the water. City officials say that normal use of the
water is expected to be available later this afternoon.
Talladega man arrested in Jacksonville
A Talladega man was arrested this morning by
Jacksonville police after he attempted to recover his car which had
been impounded by police early this morning after a foiled burglary
attempt at a local jewelry store. Jacksonville assistant police chief
Bill Wineman said Officers discovered the attempted burglary near 2:30
this morning .21 year old Vincent Armstrong of Talladega was
arrested when he came to the police department later this morning to
claim his vehicle was stolen. The officer involved in the chase
identified Armstrong as the man he chased and Armstrong is now facing
Anniston assisted living apartments evacuated
Residents of the Wesley apartments assisted
living complex in downtown Anniston were forced our of their homes
overnight when an apartment caught fire in the five story building on
noble street. According to Anniston fire chief Bill Fincher, the
fire was contained to a bedroom area of one apartment. Officials say
that everyone was evacuated safely from the building and there were no
injuries. Fire officials say that the fire was contained to the
bedroom in a 5th floor apartment and was apparently started
from smoking in bed.
As a smoky haze covered much of east Anniston
Saturday morning, Firefighters were fighting an early morning wildfire
near the Summerall Gate entrance to McClellan. The Anniston Fire
Department responded to the scene just before six Saturday morning and
by noon, workers for the Alabama Forestry Commission relieved the
city’s firefighters. Anniston firefighters formed fire lines around
the blaze on Littlebrant Drive. They were able to contain the blaze
before it could reach buildings at Summerall Gate Road. Some 200-300
acres were scorched in the blaze. No structures were damaged.
