Fight in Hobson City leads to 3 arrests
people have been arrested and more arrests are possible following a
fight in Hobson City Wednesday afternoon. According to Calhoun County
Sheriff Larry Amerson a number of officers from Oxford assisted
deputies in what turned out to be a large crowd of close to 50 people
who had gathered after two teens got into a fight. The sheriff said
that at least one woman was armed with a knife. Those arrested were
Jacquelyn Denise Ball (left) charged with Disorderly Conduct and Resisting
arrest and 24 year old Takeisha Wyshunn Ball (right) who has been charged with
Disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and Assault 2. The third person
was a juvenile whose information was not released.
Heflin man charged in Munford murder
Talladega County authorities have charged a
Heflin man with capital murder in connection with Tuesday afternoon’s
shooting of an Anniston man which resulted in a standoff with police
on Cedars Road in Munford. 57 year old Kenneth Leon Morrow was
charged with one count of capital murder during a burglary, according
to Talladega County District Attorney Steve Giddens. He is being
held without bond.
Morrow is charged with shooting and killing 60
year old Charles Allen Barnes, of Anniston. Police found Barnes lying
face-down in the kitchen of the home with multiple gunshot wounds to
the back. The resident of the home Leigh Zajeski was taken to the
hospital with head injuries after being struck in the head with a gun
Authorities said Morrow and Zajeski had been involved in a long-term
relationship, which ended about six months ago. Officials said Morrow
forced his way into Zajeski’s residence Tuesday afternoon, which
resulted in the altercation and shooting.
Bond denied for Pell City woman charged with
A Pell City woman facing a reckless murder charge
in the death of her child was denied bond at a pre-trial hearing
Wednesday. St. Clair County Circuit Court Judge Charles Robinson
denied bond for for 42 year old Vickie Howard. Howard is accused of
the reckless murder of her 5-year-old son, Adren “Chance” Howard, who
died when his mother wrecked the truck she was driving along Camp
Creek Road March 28, 2006. Authorities alleged Howard’s blood alcohol
level was more than three times the legal limit at the time of the
wreck. The case is set for trial June 25. A plea date is set for June
Calhoun Commissioners declare Monday a county holiday
Calhoun county employees will get the day off
Monday as the county commission has declared the day an official
county holiday to observe Confederate Memorial Day. The holiday will
coincide with the state holiday, all county offices will be closed on
