Fight in Hobson City leads to 3 arrests

Three people have been arrested and more arrests are possible following a fight in Hobson City Wednesday afternoon.  According to Calhoun County Sheriff Larry Amerson a number of officers from Oxford assisted deputies in what turned out to be a large crowd of close to 50 people who had gathered after two teens got into a fight.  The sheriff said that at least one woman was armed with a knife.  Those arrested were Jacquelyn Denise Ball (left) charged with Disorderly Conduct and Resisting arrest and 24 year old Takeisha Wyshunn Ball (right) who has been charged with Disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and Assault 2.  The third person was a juvenile whose information was not released.

Heflin man charged in Munford murder

Talladega County authorities have charged a Heflin man with capital murder in connection with Tuesday afternoon’s shooting of an Anniston man which resulted in a standoff with police on Cedars Road in Munford.   57 year old Kenneth Leon Morrow was charged with one count of capital murder during a burglary, according to Talladega County District Attorney Steve Giddens.   He is being held without bond.

Morrow is charged with shooting and killing 60 year old Charles Allen Barnes, of Anniston.  Police found Barnes lying face-down in the kitchen of the home with multiple gunshot wounds to the back.  The resident of the home Leigh Zajeski was taken to the hospital with head injuries after being struck in the head with a gun butt. Authorities said Morrow and Zajeski had been involved in a long-term relationship, which ended about six months ago. Officials said Morrow forced his way into Zajeski’s residence Tuesday afternoon, which resulted in the altercation and shooting.

Bond denied for Pell City woman charged with murder

A Pell City woman facing a reckless murder charge in the death of her child was denied bond at a pre-trial hearing Wednesday.   St. Clair County Circuit Court Judge Charles Robinson denied bond for for 42 year old Vickie Howard. Howard is accused of the reckless murder of her 5-year-old son, Adren “Chance” Howard, who died when his mother wrecked the truck she was driving along Camp Creek Road March 28, 2006. Authorities alleged Howard’s blood alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit at the time of the wreck.  The case is set for trial June 25. A plea date is set for June 21.
