Man killed in Logan Martin boat accident 

Authorities say that A man was killed Wednesday night  when a boat in which he was riding ran aground on Logan Martin Lake. Pell City Police Chief Greg Turley said the man was thrown overboard when the boat struck Goat Island, which is south of Lakeside Landing. The victim was not identified. A second passenger on the boat was injured, according to a dispatcher at the St. Clair County sheriff’s department.  


July shooting victim dies 

Authorities say that A Talladega man wounded by a shotgun blast July 4  has died.  34 year old Ronnie Headen was struck by shotgun pellets in his chest and arm. At the time, his injuries were described as “serious, but not life threatening.”

Talladega County District Attorney Steve Giddens said an autopsy had been ordered to determine whether Headen’s death was caused by the wounds he sustained July 4. If the wounds were the proximate cause of death and if an arrest in the case is made, Giddens said, there is a strong possibility the suspect will face a murder charge.



Authorities identify victim found in canyon 

The body of a man found Sunday in Little River Canyon where his truck had gone into the canyon has been identified as a Collinsville resident, according to Little River Canyon National Preserve officials.  Kimberly Kirk, chief ranger, said dental records were used to identify the body of 25 year old Joseph "Joey" Lamar Craton.  Craton had been reported missing Sept. 20 by family members to the DeKalb County Sheriff Department. He had last been seen on Sept. 17.The body was spotted by visitors Sunday afternoon while they were taking pictures from the Wolf Creek Overlook. They spotted the truck about 150 feet down the canyon.  Rangers and Fischer Rescue volunteers were able to rappel down to the vehicle and discovered the body outside a white truck.The body was recovered about 6 p.m. Sunday and taken to Huntsville for autopsy.  Kirk said the death has been ruled an accident. She did not say how long authorities thought the body may have been there before it was seen. 


Suspect sought in Anniston robbery 

Anniston police are searching for a suspect who robbed the Rood Mart on West 18th street Tuesday.  According to police the  man, armed with a chrome handgun, entered the store around 2:20 p.m. Tuesday, the man walked behind the store’s meat counter, brandished his semi-automatic gun and demanded money he then fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.

No one was injured and police do not have suspects. Officers said they will continue the investigation.
