Caldwell has been charged with murder in the shooting death BoltonBolton was found outside a home on Gurnee Avenue Sunday afternoon, police said he had been  shot at least once in the neck. Investigators spent Monday checking several addresses, looking for Caldwell, who went from being a “person of interest” in the case in the morning to a suspect by afternoon. A warrant for his arrest was issued around 4 p.m. Investigators said that Caldwell, who reportedly goes by the street name “Can’t Get Right,” was acquainted with Bolton, but were not able to elaborate on the details of the relationship.  Investigators are unsure of the motive for the killing.

Two injured in Talladega County accident

A two-vehicle accident Monday morning in Talladega County sent two people to the hospital.   Authorities said the accident occurred near the intersection of the 275 Bypass and Alabama 21 South. A 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis apparently turned in front of an 18-wheeler, knocking it down an embankment and totaling the car. The driver of the car, 76 year old Jack Morrison of Weaver, and a passenger, 73 year old Dorothy Albright, of Anniston, were both injured and transported to Citizens Baptist Medical Center in Talladega. Morrison was entrapped and had to be cut out of the vehicle by firefighters.  The driver of the truck, Richard Easterwood of Delta, was not injured, but the collision ruptured the vehicle’s fuel tank, dumping a large quantity of diesel fuel into a drainage ditch that eventually feeds into Talladega Creek.

The Talladega County Emergency Management Agency and Alabama Department of Transportation responded by filling the ditch with Quick Dry to soak up the fuel before it reached the creek.

Cleburne County attempting to sell old jail property

After failing to receive bids earlier this year, the Cleburne County Commission will for the second time, attempt to auction off the old county jail property behind the Cleburne County Courthouse in Heflin.  Auctioneer Joel Holcombe intends to auction property near the courthouse and he agreed to auction the county’s jail property site at the same time.
The county has set the starting bid price at $60,000 with a additional 10 percent fee added to the final bid price. A low bidder at $60,000 would have to pay an additional $6,000 to seal the deal. If there is no winning bid, the county will have to pay the auction company $2,500 for their efforts.
