Police searching for robbery suspects

Oxford police are searching for three men wanted for the Sunday robbery of the Hello Money Internet Café .  Police say that the three entered the business on Barry Street just before 7 Sunday morning and one of the men pulled a gun on a worker and took money from the cash box under the counter.  Oxford police say they have suspects in the robbery but have made no arrests.

Attorney for drug dealer is a fraud

A million dollar bond has been set for a Houston, Texas woman who was arrested this week in Gadsden after she claimed to be an attorney for a man arrested on drug trafficking charges.  50 year old Carmen Saldana Meyer is expected to be charged in Etowah County with practicing law without a license.  She is also wanted in Florida on charges of conspiracy to traffic more than a thousand pounds of marijuana and money laundering.  Meyer had been retained by the family of Gopar Garcia whom drug investigators believe is a leader of an organized group of drug dealers.  Garcia was arrested in February charged with trafficking in Crystal methamphetamine.  According to investigators, Garcia’s family apparently made a deal with Meyer, unaware that she was not a licensed attorney.  Officials say that not only was she not an attorney but she was a con artist.  Officials say she apparently targeted Hispanics who had been arrested on drug trafficking charges, with promises of getting a reduced sentence.

Stolen trailer recovered in Georgia

A Tractor Trailer loaded with $9,000 dollars worth of coca cola products was taken over the weekend from the parking lot of the old Food World on South Quintard Avenue in Anniston.  Police say the trailer was left in the parking lot Saturday morning and the driver drove away with the truck.  When he returned for the trailer Monday night, it was gone, along with the 2,016  12 packs of coca cola inside the trailer.  Police in Atlanta recovered the trailer Tuesday but 21 palletts of coca cola inside the trailer was gone.

Memorial Bridge re-opened in Gadsden

Traffic resumed Wednesday on Memorial Bridge in downtown Gadsden after the bridge was shut down for three days because of damage.  City engineers said that the bridge possibly had shifted after a truck drove over it with more than the established weight limit of ten tons.  Police re-opened the bridge just before the noon hour Wednesday.
