Two teens arrested in weekend fire and vandalism of Centre School

Centre Police have arrested two juveniles in connection with a weekend fire and break in at the Centre middle school.  Authorities say that the two youths did some $200,000 in damage throughout the school.  Damage was throughout the entire school, including the gym, library, lunchroom and classrooms.  Officials say the damage is the worse they have seen and will take several months to repair including replacing all of the broken windows.  The two youths were arrested Monday after being identified on the schools video surveillance system and face arson and burglary charges, their names cannot be released because of their ages.

Jacksonville Police seek suspects in weekend shooting and chase

Jacksonville police are searching for four black males in a green 1993 Honda accord for reckless endangerment and a number of traffic charges.  The charges stem from an incident Saturday afternoon where shots were fired in the air near the intersection of Pelham road and Francis Street in Jacksonville.  Jacksonville police pursued the vehicle on highway 204 at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour when the officer lost sight of the car near the U.S. 431 intersection.  Police, however were able to identify the driver and two passengers in the vehicle.  Police said they would obtain warrants for their arrest.  Police say they believe that two of the men were believed to have been involved in a March 3rd shooting at Germania Springs Park in Jacksonville.

Gadsdens Memorial Bridge may re-open

Officials in Gadsden are hopeful that the Memorial Bridge will re-open today.  The bridge buckled Sunday which caused police to close off the bridge which connects downtown Gadsden and East Gadsden, diverting traffic to the Meighan Blvd. Or Lake Gadsden Parkway Bridges.  Gadsden city engineer Ron Crocker said the problem is on the western approach to the bridge and is not a structural issue with the 76 year old bridge.  Croker said that it is highly possible that a large truck could have triggered the problem as the bridge has a ten ton weight limit.  Croker said it is very likely that a truck heavier than the limit crossed the bridge.

Talladega County hoping road projects will lure industry

Talladega county leaders and the Alabama Department of Transportation officials met Tuesday at the Greater Talladega Area Chamber of Commerce to announce several road projects that they hope will help in bringing new industrial prospects to the area.  Officials say that work on two projects will begin as early as this summer.  Alabama highway 77 South will be widened to four lanes beginning in Waldo and continuing to just south of the Clay County line.  The five mile stretch is estimated to cost $13 million.  Bids have already been opened on the 275 Bypass project wihc will extend that road from its intersection with Alabama 77 north to Alabama 21 just before Kelley Creek at an estimated cost of between $18 and $25 million.
