Amber alert a hoax, Mother and boyfriend
charged in boys murder
The body of 5 year old Geontae Glass was found
early this morning in the car that his mother reported stolen Monday
morning from an Albertville service station. Etowah County Sheriff
James Hayes, in a press conference this morning said the theft of the
car and the abduction of the child was a hoax. Hayes said the body
was found near 2am Tuesday morning inside the car in a garage on Shady
Grove Road in Etowah County at a home believed to be owned by
Andre Towles, the boyfriend of the child's mother
Glass. Sheriff Hayes said that the child may have been dead prior to
the staging of the amber alert Monday morning and that an autopsy is
being performed to determine the exact cause of death. Towles and
Sholinda Glass were arrested between 2 and 4 this morning at the
Rainbow Apartments in Rainbow City. According to the sheriff,
officers recovered a quantity of what is believed to be cocaine along
with a number of weapons and cash at the Shady Grove Residence.

Preuitt mentioned as possible new State Senate Leader
Alabama Senate Minority Leader Jabo Waggoner said
Monday that he doesn't expect Democratic Sen. Lowell Barron to be
elected Senate president pro tem for a third term next month but
Barron isn't giving up. Speaking after an orientation session for
legislators at the University of Alabama law school, Waggoner said he
believes Sen. Jim Preuitt, of Talladega, will be the compromise
president pro tem.
Campaigning for president pro tem, begins in earnest today when
Republican and Democratic senators meet in their respective caucuses
during the second day of the three-day orientation session. The wild
card in the pro tem selection, which will occur during the
Legislature's organizational session that begins Jan. 9, is who the
six so-called dissident Democratic senators will side with - the 12
Senate Republicans or 17 remaining Democrats who so far seem to be
loyal to Barron. It takes 18 votes to be elected president pro tem.
Faced with six Democratic senators who said they would organize with
12 Republicans if need be to take control of the Senate, Barron
revealed a surprise Monday when he said two Republicans are talking
with his side. He wouldn't say who they are.Waggoner said three
senators have been appointed to a subcommittee to meet with the six
Democrats - Preuitt, Sens. Tom Butler of Madison, Jimmy Holley of
Elba, E.B. McClain of Midfield, Larry Means of Attalla and Phil Poole
of Tuscaloosa. Waggoner said the three are Sen. Bradley Byrne,
R-Daphne, Sen. Charles Bishop, R-Curry, and Sen. Steve French,
